Temporary closure of HMP Dartmoor

Due to high levels of radon gas recorded at HMP Dartmoor, all prisoners gradually moved out in 2024 , whilst it is being decided how the situation will be rectified. We have temporarily relocated our headquarters and editing suite to an office in the community. This has not affected our editing and production service for our member prisons ( currently 102 prisons nationwide).

Neil's Story

Neil was given a 4-year sentence and served 18 months. At home, he had two sons and accessed our service within 3 weeks of arriving in prison. His boys loved the first story and his eldest asked for them regularly. His enthusiasm for the project made him a perfect candidate to train as a Storybook Dads editor. When we moved our office into the community in 2025, Neil had already been released so he was taken on as a staff member.

Storybook Dads Main Appeal

Separation can leave children feeling lonely, anxious and confused. Sharing a story is more than reading – it’s creating memories, building confidence, and giving children reassurance. Your gift helps families connect and children thrive.
Audio and Video Stories

Every year we help over 3,700 prisoners to record bedtime stories for their children. By sending a story to their children, parents can bring comfort to their children and share the joy of storytelling from behind bars. Our friendly team are there to help less confident readers and the editing process means that even non-readers can take part.
